Billie Eilish and Khalid are without doubt two of the most exciting music artists of our generation, therefore you can imagine our delight when we found out that the two would be collaborating together.
Their track ‘lovely’ premiered earlier today as a Beats 1 World Record. Co-written by Khalid, Billie and her brother Finneas, who also produced the track, ‘lovely’ is a captivating yet melancholic offering which truly showcases their incredibly raw talent. The stripped back production allows you to fully focus on the melancholic lyrics and the pair’s soulful vocals which work perfectly together.
Isn’t it lovely, all alone
Heart made of glass, my mind of stone
Tear me to pieces, skin and bone
Hello, welcome home
Speaking about the track’s somewhat ironic title, Billie told Zane Lowe: “We called it that because the song was sort of really freaking depressing so then it’s like oh, how lovely. Just taking everything horrible like you know what this is great. I’m so happy being miserable.”
Billie also spoke about how the songwriting process was very natural. She told Zane: “One thing that I’ll say is that when we wrote this song what was cool about it was that it wasn’t like we’re going to the studio and going to write a hit, you feel me. It was like hey come over, let’s hangout. He just came over and we hung out. Me and my brother hung out with Khalid in our house and it was literally this is us hanging out as friends and we ended up writing a song.

‘lovely’ follows on from Billie’s most recent offering ‘bitches broken hearts’ and her debut EP don’t smile at me. The track is the latest in a string of great releases from Khalid, including ‘Love Lies’ with Normani, ‘Silence’ with Marshmello and ‘Young Dumb and Broke’.
