We aren’t overly dramatic here at CelebMix honestly so when we say Louis Tomlinson has killed our minds with the release of his latest single Kill My Mind, we aren’t joking….. It’s stuck in our head!
Kill My Mind is a song that demands your attention. It’s loud, it’s in your face. It showcases Louis distinctive voice while hammering home that Louis is one of the most underrated singer/songwriters the UK has to offer. He could, we’ll go out on a limb and say it, be the secret weapon the industry doesn’t even know it has.
Louis has a somewhat rare ability to take situations that many relate to but don’t often talk about and craft them into a song that is so open, honest and relatable and killer production values that create masterpieces you just have to sing along to.
Kill My Mind is a homage to indie songs from the ’90s, the stuff Louis grew up on. Louis even did a playlist to highlight some of the influences for the track, and we think they are spot on musically.
This style suits his voice, his unique vocal tones perfectly at ease with a heavier drum and guitar-led beats. From the opening “You’re a nightmare on the dancefloor, and you hate me and I want more, you’re a total distraction.” Louis northern accent evident and fitting with the genre in the background, It’s gritty, raw and a complete banger!
This is a sound we’d love to see Louis experiment more with, which he hopefully does on his upcoming album, Kill My Mind is setting the scene for future performances, it’s bound to become that amthemlike song that everybody wants to hear during a gig and goes wild for… much like Mr Brightside by The Killers!
In the press release for the song Louis says:
“‘Kill My Mind’ is a song about having fun and doing silly things when you’re younger. It’s about going through an experimental phase in your youth, and doing things that might not be good for you, but they are exciting!
The next few songs I have coming out finally represent me as an artist. For a while I was recording music that I thought would get me on the radio. I felt like I had to make a certain sound of music, but then I had a moment where I sat and thought, I just need to make music that is true to myself.
I met Jamie Hartman [Rag’N’Bone Man co-writer and producer], and I finally felt like I saw eye to eye with a producer. We were on the same page and the last bunch of sessions I’ve done have really produced songs that I’m proud of. I want to be able to move people with words. I want my lyrics to be honest and say things that matter and mean something.”
