The project is the brainchild of creative director Hedi Slimane, who decided to revive the famed house's relationship with rock stars when he arrived at the brand in 2012. Founder Yves Saint Laurent had a close relationship with Mick and Bianca Jagger, whom he dressed for their 1971 wedding in St Tropez, cementing the already close relationship between rock icons and the house's earliest days.
It's also a continuation of Slimane's personal love of music, which has seen him dress performers including David Bowie, The Kills and Franz Ferdinand over the years, as well as the invention of The Rock Diary, a photographic project that has been ongoing for the last decade.
