Rachel Zegler News
Walt Disney would be “turning in his grave” over the Rachel Zegler live-action remake, according to the “Snow White” director’s son.
The impending “woke” movie, according to former Disney designer David Hand, “has no respect for what Disney did or what my dad did.”
From the beginning, “Snow White” has faced criticism. First, because Zegler is of Latina origin, there have been complaints about her casting as the lead actress. Meanwhile, Peter Dinklage criticised the live-action adaptation, calling it a “fucking backward story” that was disrespectful to the dwarfism community. Later, Disney clarified that the movie wouldn’t be “reinforcing stereotypes” about individuals with disabilities.
The son of the original 1937 animated film’s director has now said that Walt Disney would not like the current, “woke” route the movie is taking. David Hand, whose late father with the same name directed the first movie, was a designer for Disney in the 1990s.
According to Hand, Disney and his father would be “turning in their graves” if they were still living to watch the new “Snow White.” Hand added, “I just utterly disagree with that, and I know my dad and Walt would also strongly disagree with it. that’s a whole different concept.
In addition, he called it a “disgrace” that the studio is “trying to produce something new with something that was such a huge success earlier,” adding, “Their thoughts are just so radical now. They alter the narratives and the characters’ way of thinking. They’re inventing brand-new woke concepts, but I’m not interested in any of that. To be completely honest, I feel what they might have done with some of these iconic films to be a little demeaning.
“There’s no respect for what Disney did or for what my dad did,” Hand continued. He and Walt would likely be twisting in their graves, in my opinion.
The lead actress Zegler has admitted that she dislikes the original story and that she didn’t like the previous movie. Zegler told Extra that the film is “really not about the love story at all” but rather the character’s “inner journey that she goes on to find her true self.” “There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her… weird, so we didn’t do that this time,” Zegler said.
According to Zegler, the reimagined Snow White character in the live-action version “won’t be dreaming about true love, she’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader her late father told her she could be.”
Director Marc Webb’s “Snow White” also stars Ansu Kabia and Gal Gadot. The movie is scheduled to premiere on March 22, 2024. The movie is a musical and a “delicious and delightful” remake, actress Gadot told GQ.
