Stephen Douglas Kerr was born on 27 September 1965, in Beirut Lebanon. He is a retired basketball player, currently working as a coach the Golden State Warriors team in the NBA. During his time as a professional player, he was known for his prowess and talent whenever he entered the court, especially when he was playing for the San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls. He won a total of three championships with these teams, becoming one of the few NBA players to have won the championship in consecutive seasons, in two different teams.

Steve Kerr was born to American academic Malcolm Kerr, and Ann Kerr. He spent most of his childhood in Middle Eastern nations such as Lebanon, attending Cairo American College in Egypt, and the American Community School in Beirut, Lebanon. He also attended Palisades High School in Pacific Palisades, California, where he excelled in basketball. He continued playing basketball after being enrolled at the University of Arizona, where he stayed from 1983-1988. He was named as one of the players for the USA Basketball team in 1986, helping the team compete in FIBA World Championship.

During the 1988 NBA draft’s second round, Steve Kerr was chosen to play for the Phoenix Suns, but was traded in 1989 to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He spent more than three seasons there, before joining the Orlando Magic. In 1993, Steve signed a deal with the Chicago Bulls, helping the team to win the 1996 1997 and 1998 NBA Championships. In 1998, he was traded for Chunk Pearson of the San Antonio Spurs, a team with whom he won the NBA Championship in 1999, hence championships with different clubs in successive seasons. On 24 July 2001, the Spurs traded him in a 3-man deal, which saw him join the Portland Trailblazers. He played 65 games with the team before returning to the Spurs on 2 August 2002, and in 2003, he helped the team win the NBA Championship again, defeating New Jersey Nets. During the finals, he announced that he was looking to retire, while still ‘on top’.

In 2003, Steve Kerr was hired by Turner Network Television, with whom he became a broadcast analyst. During this time he was also contributing as an NBA commentator for Yahoo! He subsequently provided in-game commentary for video games for EA Sport’s NBA Live: 06, 07, 08, 09 and 10. In 2007, he left broadcasting and joined he Phoenix Suns as the team’s general manager. On 14 May 2014, he reached an agreement with Golden State to become the Warrior’s head coach, succeeding Mark Jackson. He was reported to have signed a lucrative deal with the team in 2014, where he would be paid $25 million for a five-year contract.

In his personal life, Steve Kerr married his longtime girlfriend Margot Kerr in 1990, and the couple has three children: he is currently based in San Diego, California with his wife and youngest son.
